=-=-=-=-=-WARNING DO NOT DOWNLOAD UNTIL ITCH STAFF LOOKS THIS OVER AND TAKES APPROPRIATE ACTION-=-=-=-=-=
this devs account was tooken over by a worm/trojan virus it looks like. hence, the lack of replys to users comments. i have reported this to itch.io staff and informed them to rollback both exe files in the archive or rollback the whole game archive on itch. or to sadly last resort take it down. i do hope they dont do the later as this is a really really really good game from good artists. they dont deserve their work tarnished like this because of some asshole that wrote a trojan worm to harm them and others...
i did include a md5 hash of the last known clean exe build to staff, so hopefully this can stay up and the original dev can return
fyi be careful downloading this game because my antivirus says it's a trojan.
this devs account was tooken over by that same virus it looks like sadly. hence, the lack of replys to users comments. i have reported this to itch.io staff and informed them to rollback both exe files in the archive or rollback the whole game archive on itch. or to sadly last resort take it down. i do hope they dont do the later as this is a really really really good game from good artists. they dont deserve their work tarnished like this because of some asshole that wrote a trojan worm to harm them and others...

I agree on the virus part, but how exactly do you know that the virus took over their account? Not saying that you're lying or anything but if that was the case then prymordium himself would have told us what was happening on another account.
Other cases would be:
Life.
lost interest.
Working on bigger projects.
etc.
its just a guess, as the type of virus is a polymorphic worm/spreader trojan according to virustotal. and they would have had to gain access to prymordiums stuff to reupload the bad copy within the last year. and sadly this current bad copy can perform numerous actions (steal passwords, encrypt files, eat space, log keystrokes etc etc and infect other neighboring exe files on the drives) its all able to be done automatically or upon the bad actors request. idk why the artist has been missing for so long which is concerning as there was a small team of +5 people making this game (prymordium has been missing +2 years it appears? on the digging i did on gamejolts website) which is concerning and i hope they are ok, but i do know this game never had a virus in it before until last year and the dev and artists worked very hard on it and its all unfair to them and the users that download it in its current condition. it will give them a bad name and reputation
on gamejolt there was supposed to be a chapter two, but theres been no updates since 2 years ago....
if i had to guess on what happened, the developers machine was compromised by a bad actor on discord (which happens alot with the social engineering tactic of "hey freind! ive been working on this game or try my new game yada yada") which then other devs will check it out unknowing that they actually infected their machine because their freind was also compromised by the same way and the infection spreads like cancer via both social engineering and exe.
i still am clueless on why they and others have not reached out on itch io, maybe this really is an abandoned project and they all forgot about it, sadly. i hope not, maybe developments just going hella hella slow. but cool fact is lead programmer was a guest on doctor who as a editorial consultant it appears, i was actually gonna try to email everyone i could to sort out this mess. as a dev myself i would want someone to help me make things right for others if somthing went wrong like this to me. but im keeping an eye out and gonna try to contact everyone i can about this that made the game....
to play a clean copy download the 2018 copy of simulacrum from here https://archive.org/details/simulacrum-chapter-one-1.2.1
the real devs original simulacrum exe should always be 625kb with a md5 hash of : 5580ddf75fbaf58cbdcee0efebe4a14
Thanks to your follow, I was able to take swift action and update my collection entries for this game accordingly. Now when users run into it, there will be a warning that should redirect them to an alternative download that isn’t compromised.
welcome
Does anyone know when or if chapter 2 will come out?
If they can't reply for 7 months, then probably never.
Hi! Any news on the 2nd Chapter? "SH2 Remake" has been released. "Post Trauma" is on the way. The 1st Chapter of Simulacrum looks rather promising. Please guys, don't cancel the development. Finish it. Looking forward to playing Chapter 2.
WHY THE FUCK DOERS NO ONE TALK ABOUT THIS GAME
WHAT THE HELL
This one's really not getting any traction huh...
Your game looks and feels like something straight from the PS 2 catalogue. And while I am not a big fan on SH cloning I can't help but be fascinated by the effort and talent it must've taken to come up with something so compelling.
Some person also gave it a 1 star rating. Absurd! I gave it a 5 star rating in the name of justice. (I don't usually feel the need to do that.)
Edit: Ok I see. This was an older title that ended up getting released over on Game Jolt. Surprised it didn't stick out in my mind. I don't expect this to be getting a chapter 2 then and if it is, I find it to be unlikely.
Honestly I don't see many Silent Hill clones compared to Resident Evil clones. There are plenty that are "inspired by" silent hill in some way but I can count on one hand the number of indie games that actually get the right tone/atmosphere, this is one of them.
More than you think and fewer than RE has, aye. In any case I agree that this is a good game.
If you could name a few then I would love to play them. Aside from this game, Lost in Vivo, and Lone Survivor, every Silent Hill inspired game/clone has missed the mark terribly for me. Not just in the sense of not being a good game but more not understanding the atmosphere and tone. Post Trauma looks promising too.
I'm very cautious when making recommendations for games since I know people's reasoning for liking a singular thing will vary depending on their background information that they've accumulated surrounding said thing. For me it's always been a mostly vibe thing that renders me pretty lenient as long as it's execution is what I could reasonably consider tasteful by my own metrics.
If you wish to discover more games in the same vein then perhaps you could turn to the YouTube video maker Silent Archives's "I Played Every Modern Silent Hill Clone". (It's not every, but I digress.)
Alternatively you could check out my collection here on itch.io which attempts to group together the finds tied to this site: https://itch.io/c/1698513/silent-hill-likes
But judging from your previously liked titles I wager the vast majority of games will not make the cut in the end which is fair enough too.
I've seen that video but there were some games on that list I haven't check out, thanks! I think the problem for me is two-fold. There are a decent number of promising titles but they're mostly demos or short proof of concept games. There are also not as many which fully commit to being a Silent HIll clone, often they copy the aesthetic but try to do their own thing, which is fine, but I'd really like some more good Silent Hill.
Are you still working on this? This is probably my favourite Silent Hill inspired indie game. It totally nails the atmosphere.
Nice really great game I like it and good atmospheric i don't know how much to say cause I really like it anyway well done keep it up!
Thanks..
